Issues with a car battery can cause all kinds of problems that won’t always be obvious. Before a dying battery becomes serious, there are things you can look out for that will let you know it’s time for a battery replacement. By keeping an eye out for these symptoms, you can avoid being stuck somewhere and needing a jump.
If your car has begun to take a while to start, this could be a sign you need a new battery. If the starter can’t draw enough power right away, it takes longer to get the engine to turn over. A new battery can usually solve this issue.
The terminals on your battery may start to show signs of corrosion and will get a buildup of green and white deposits. This is usually a sign that the battery itself isn’t holding a charge and that the car is trying to draw more power than is available.
If you’re getting a check engine light on your dashboard but the vehicle is otherwise running fine, this could be a sign that you need a battery replacement. Many auto supply stores will run a free engine check to diagnose the reason for the light.
